Presenter bio

Chad Youngquist has spent more than 30 years building homes and the companies behind them. An aspiring architect in his youth, he eventually found that construction suited him better than design. He worked for a residential builder while earning his Construction Management degree at Central Washington University, then rose to lead project manager for that company.

In 2004 he founded Pillar Development, focused on spec homes and land development. When the 2008 crash took its toll on many builders in that market, Chad rebuilt Pillar Development around custom homes. In 2017 he finally scratched his architectural itch by making it a full design/build firm.

Today, through Summit Builder Alliance, Chad helps home builders build stronger, more profitable companies, pairing the operational systems that protect margins with the leadership and culture that make those systems stick.

He and his wife Jamie split time between central Washington and north Idaho, where their special needs adult son is fulfilling his dream.

Understanding Real Overhead and How It’s Quietly Impacting Your Cash Flow and Profit

Most builders know what overhead is. The problem isn’t defining it. It’s not knowing every dollar of it, and how to use that data to forecast, plan, and test it against profitability.

When builders don’t meet projected profits, overhead is often the culprit. And many builders don’t actually know, off the top of their heads, the monthly or annual cost to run their business.

In this course, we will properly establish the overhead of an example company, then build off that data to gain a full understanding of month-to-month cash flow, and annual profitability. Attendees will learn:

o   How to capture and organize every cost to run their business

o   How to plan for future overhead to prevent profit leakage over the duration of projects

o   How to input and track current and future projects to verify real annual revenue

o   How to calculate profitability, testing overhead data against project data

o   How to forecast monthly cash flow

o   How to track work in progress to gain a month-by-month report on overhead recovery.

o   How to fix profit deficits if the data reveals a problem

Target audience: Home Builders, Light Commercial General Contractors, Remodelers
